The Little Prince on Love

"One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes." ~ The Little Prince

Does that mean that one only views life through the heart? If so, what if your heart has been broken into pieces, hurt by people around you? Blindness leads you into the afterlife...

This famous quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, trying to teach children and grown-ups what is love and what is happiness. I contemplate on whether this quote is true.

Take a couple in love, in what is considered a honeymoon phase. This quote would be true. Everything around there isn't important when there are two people in love with each other. Only being together is what's important. Only being loved is what's important.

But what happens when this couple argue and fight, or drastically break up? Confused, bewildered, lost and moving blindly through life trying to figure out everything in life. Trying to figure out what went wrong, searching for the answers. In the end, the eyes see what is really essential, that it's not just the magic words "I Love You" that makes a relationship work. Problems with different goals in life, misunderstandings, differences in interests and personalities...these are all things that when in love you don't see.

A friend told me awhile ago, you don't get over your last relationship until you move onto another relationship. Does that mean that I'm going to move around lost and blind until I can find someone else to guide me? That with love again, I'll see clearly...and when will that be?
